Relics are the bones of the virtuous that gain power through the renown gained while alive and generations of veneration after death.

Spirits need a physical presence to interact with the living. This is most commonly bones — even a small bone will allow some connection. The more complete the skeleton, the more powerful the connection with the living world.

Relics act as conduits for the spirit’s power and (based on the power of the spirit) can lead to powerful divine magic (e.g., curing the sick, calling down sheets of flame, summoning lightning from the skies, etc.).

Although most relics are kept in the ever-present shrines and family crypts for protection and veneration, some relics are brought out of the crypts on special days. One example is the namesake amulet that is given to a young lightborn woman when she becomes a young woman.
